About Hélène De Beir Foundation

Hélène was murdered in Afghanistan in 2004, she was only 29 years old.

Hélène worked for Médecins Sans Frontières. After she accomplished a few missions in other parts of the world she was back to Afghanistan to run a hospital for tubercular patients.

A week before her death I talked to Hélène on the phone. She told me again that this was the life worth living for. That she was happy, even if it was only because of the smile of a mother whose child the doctors had just treated.

This promising woman has now become a symbol of courage and devotion for many. Because there is still so much she could have done, we want to keep her memory alive and continue her work with the Hélène De Beir Foundation.
